Piedra Grande is single-origin blend from our dear friends, the Miguel Menendez family, and highlights the versatile beauty of El Salvador coffees.
WHO SHOULD DRINK THIS? If you’re new to specialty coffee, this release is a great introduction the world of washed coffees as subtle but complex coffees that reveal themselves to the patient student of coffee.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE? Clean and subtle with hints or citrus (orange) and some cocoa with a bit of pipe tobacco sweetness.
WHAT MAKES THIS COFFEE SPECIAL? Piedra Grande is what one might call a single-origin blend. It comes from multiple coffees on multiple farms owned and produced by one family and processed at their wet/dry mill, Piedra Grande. The farms are spread across the Apaneca-Ilamatepec department of northwest El Salvador, giving one a survey of the region’s taste, blended into one cup.
HOW DO WE SOURCE IT? We’ve been buying coffees directly from Don Miguel Menendez for over a dozen years now. It’s safe to say the Menendez family has become like our family. We have visited their farms and mill many times and have welcomed Don Miguel and his sons Miguel and Guillermo, the next generation, into our homes as well. We’re immensely proud of these types of relationships, centered around producing and serving the very best coffees possible.
This is one of our SECOND SEASON - FIRST HAND offerings. Coffees we have traveled the world to source directly from producers who are doing seriously good work in their localities, and that we think represent the very best their respective countries have to offer. We pay whatever price they ask because we are convinced their greatness will shine in your cup and because we know you’re happy to pay a little bit more for that quality and direct coffee friendship. Please note that while a large chunk of coffees we carry are the fruits of our extensive global coffee travels, if you see a coffee of ours without the SECOND SEASON - FIRST HAND designation, it doesn’t mean it’s less good. It just means we probably had a little help from a broker we trust to source coffees for us that meet our quality standards of Good Tasting; Transparent Operations and Sustainable Practices.
